Hi, I’m Rana

Pronounced Ren-uh

Hi, I’m Rana, the creator behind Books and Things Explained (BATE).

My parents migrated from Lebanon to Windsor, Canada, in the ’80s, where I was born and raised and lived my entire life. I graduated from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2020, six months before I created BATE.

My favorite nonfiction genres change often. When I first started reading nonfiction, I read a lot of memoirs, self-help, business, and productivity books. I then began reading psychology, neuroscience, biographies, and behavioral economics. Now, I spend most of my time reading books on politics, economics, earth science, climate change (a new subject I’ve recently been interested in), and history (particularly the Middle East and America).

You name it, I’ve read it—productivity, self-help, spirituality, business, psychology, economics, history, math, statistics, physics, learning, neuroscience, health, politics, social sciences, essays, skills, etc. Honestly, I love it all.

I am on this perpetual cycle of reading, learning, curiosity, and reading even more. The more I read, the more I am exposed to new subjects, the more I realize how much I don’t know, and the more eager I am to fill that knowledge gap.

Now, with BATE, I can share all the incredible books I’ve read and cool things I’ve learned with a community of fellow intellectuals. And for that, I am eternally grateful.

Thank you a million times over for your support. It means the world to me. I look forward to growing intellectually together!
